Hi my name is Amy ashman and I am a close relative to sonnys family. I am organising a go fund me in memory of sonny to help with easing some of the stress and financial burden for his family during this difficult time and uncertain path ahead.
August 26th sonny peacefully past away with his mummy and daddy in his arms aged 10 , who has left sonnys family heartbroken, sonny was born with a rare chromosome deletion known as 2q24.3 in which a small piece is missing from one of the body’s 46 chromosomes which is important for normal development. Sonny spent most of his life in and out of hospital battling against every challenge that was thrown his way
2014 sonny lost all mobility due to clusters of seizures which left sonny needing 24 hour care on a daily basis , he relied on Martin and Kelly for all his personal care needs as sonny was unable to do any thing for himself .
Which meant martin and Kelly couldn’t work full time jobs as there time and care revolved around there beautiful boy and Rylee sonnys younger brother .
In July 21 sonny had an operation for hip reconstruction at the Bristol Childrens hospital and the operation went well , but the next day sonny got sepsis and his gut was starved of blood resulting in sonny having a laparotomy to move some of his bowel which they thought he would not make it as because of how poorly sonny was .
sonny spent a week on the icu ward where every day could have been sonnys last . Sonny started to make slow progress but Martin and Kelly were then told sonny had an infection in his bowel which meant sonny needing another laparotomy to remove another Meter of bowel and sonny was again having to fight.
Sonny got through both operations defeating all the odds baffling the doctors with his strength and the amount sonny had achieved was incredible but then the news came that he needed another laparotomy as another infection was in his bowel and there was a chance they would have to remove all of his bowel resulting in sonny not being able to live . Sonny came out of operation with more bowel than they were expecting which was a miracle but now leaving him having food through a vein intravenously which gave sonny all the nutrients his body needed , with out this miracle drug sonny would not have been able to survive.
Kelly and Martin had to be fully trained and the NHS England to approve for sonny to be at home with TPN as it was sonnys life line and they were competent to connect and disconnect sonnys feed . Sonny was discharged and was recovering well at home but suffered a cardiac arrest which pushed sonnys recovery back leading to respiratory help but sonny started improving and hitting little milestones and managed to get back to school for a little time which was a big achievement !
But in July 23 sonny suffered another cardiac arrest which lead to him being back in icu very poorly, sonny defeated all odds again and was due to come home but sadly for kelly Martin and rylee sonny couldn’t fight any more .
Kelly and Martin dedicated there life to caring for sonny and giving him the best quality of life possible and normal life for rylee sonnys younger brother . through out hospital stays and tough times at home they always Kept positive and inspired a lot of other parents and family’s with complex needs children. I’ve never known two parents that are so selfless in every way and love so hard with all there hearts ! Which is why I’m setting up this page , I’m very great full to have been a part of sonnys journey and shared many a happy memory with them all during sonnys time with us . There reality now remains in limbo as not only have they lost there precious beautiful little boy they could loose there lively hood that they have worked so hard to build whilst caring for sonny and this is the most cruel heartbreaking reality. They now have no transport either as sonnys van will be taken back . No parent should have to burry there own child and have to face yhe uncertainty of there future whilst grieving .
Thank you for taking the time to read sonnys story and thank you for any kind of donation .
Much love to you all xxx Amy
