In Loving Memory of Skyler Hewitt

Donation protected

UPDATE

Our family would just like to say thank you to everyone who has donated and shared this gofundme. We are so grateful for everyone’s support. The goal hasn’t been met just yet but Becky and Chris, Skyler’s mom and dad wanted to share that the donations will be going toward Skyler’s memorial, The Maine Recovery Fund, and Milestone Recovery. Thank you everyone and your continued support!

Skyler Hewitt was a gifted, kindhearted, generous, thoughtful lover of life who left us far too early.

This was his FaceBook post on December 29, 2020:

"2020 taught me a lot.  Don’t take people too serious, love yourself, and don’t care what people think.  Set your goals as high as the sky, hard work pays off.  Also don’t let your past define you, The universe has a plan for everyone."

He was right the Universe has a plan for everyone even though that plan may not be known to us at the time.  Skyler was part of that plan and that is evident from all the posts on his FaceBook page from people who's lives he touched and may not have even realized it.  He was an encouragement to so many others who struggled, often giving kind, helpful advice and support, never knowing how the time he took helping them would change their life.  There are many accounts on his page where his advice was instrumental in someones life or death decision.

He was looking forward to a summer filled with family, friends, learning to surf and paddleboard, camping, 4wheeling, fishing,  hiking and going out on his dad's boat on Casco Bay exploring the islands they loved so much, most likely snapping many pictures of his surroundings; as he had a keen eye for beauty and capturing it in a unique way.

The challenges and struggles addiction brings to ones life can be overwhelming at times and with the love and support of his MaineWorks and Milestone family banding together, was instrumental in his journey.  He often said he didn't know where he would be without their love and support and opportunities their programs offered.  When Sklyer struggled the most, he often would confide in Margo Walsh, Owner and Founder of MaineWorks.  She would pick up the pieces and encouraged him start again and NOT GIVE up.  He appreciated the support her program offers.  Recovery is a journey, not a miracle and Margo and his band of brothers were there every step of the way.  While at Milestone, Jayme and his brothers there, played a role in assisting him as well.

To sum up Skyler's quote and honor him, his life, his legacy,  remember:  Don't take people too seriously, LOVE YOURSELF, do set your goals as high as the sky.  Leave the PAST in the PAST, IT DOESN'T DEFINE YOU, and most of all, know that the Universe does have a plan for you, YOU play a huge part in peoples lives!  Go out and live each day like Skyler did, with enthusiasm, wonderment and excitement, and perhaps ask, like Skyler did so often, "What are the infinite possibilities?"
