In Loving Memory of Shewhat Arefine Woldeyohannes

Our beloved Shewhat Arefine Woldeyohannes passed away on Sunday afternoon January 15, 2023. Shewhat is my sister in Christ and I decided to set up this GoFundMe account so that I can help my spiritual family in these trying times to bury her in peace.

Shewhat Woldeyohannes was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer in May 2021. She spent a long battle trying to heal, and unfortunately she passed away this past Sunday afternoon due to complications to her illness. She was not only a strong woman, a loving mother, a responsible older sister, a fun aunt, and a devoted daughter, she was also a beloved member in the San Diego Eritrean Community. She treasured her community and all of us everyday. She spent most of her life in America from the age of 26 and older to build the Eritrean Community to what it is today. She holds a significant place in our history and in our values as Eritreans. As a hard working mother of three kids and a loving wife, Shewhat also worked hard to accomplish the responsibilities she felt she had to do for her loved one. She devoted her free time to taking care of her elderly mother she helped bring from Asmara Eritrea with the help of her young two sisters. Shewhat dedicated her life to Eritrea and her community. Those who knew her described her as selfless, hardworking, compassionate, headstrong, and loyal. She accepted everyone and everybody who came across her path; you never left her presence without feeling uplifted and understood. We are devastated by her sudden passing and have truly lost an inspirational, beautiful, and extraordinary woman. Her faith in Jesus and God helped her live everyday like it was her last. We have stared a fundraiser to help Shewhat’s family with the funeral and memorial expenses. And donation will help the family during this sudden tragic time in their lives mourning their loss. We want to give Shewhat a memorial that can mirror the impact she made to the San Diego Eritrean Community. We want to help honor her legacy and her memory as we say goodbye to her during her journey to our Loving Father God.
