“LEGACY”
In Loving Memory of Shaun Hicks
To some, he was just Shaun; to others, he was larger than life. On Thursday, March 17, 2022, Shaun transitioned unexpectedly, in New York, NY, shortly after doing what he loved, coaching. In the moments leading up to his untimely passing, he had coached his final game, the Middle School All-Stars game in Chinatown. After the game, he met with longtime friends and family from the basketball community. We watched him smile, laugh, and have individual conversations with players he coached over the years.
Our family is so grateful to Shaun for the life he lived, the lives he’s touched, and the legacy he left behind. We appreciate the outpouring of support and love by those who loved him, and we are so grateful to each and every one of you.
So many have asked how you can show your support beyond sending your condolences. We have decided it will be best to donate to his LEGACY. Over Shaun’s 20-year coaching career, he has coached and mentored thousands of young boys in the New York City Tri-State area. In 2011, he partnered with Andrew Blacks, Commissioner of Positive Influence, to create a summer basketball league. Shaun won multiple championships and received an award for being an outstanding coach.
Before his passing, he and Andrew were working on starting a team for this summer. With your assistance, we will be able to continue Shaun’s legacy by helping the youth in all NYC communities. We will continue in his footsteps on creating opportunities for young men to showcase their talents and provide mentoring opportunities for them.
Sincerely,
LaToyia Carter (Shaun’s mom) and our boys.
The Hicks Family
