In Loving Memory of Shaughn Helliar
Donation protected
With heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of Shaughn Helliar who passed away unexpectedly on February 25. As all those who love Shaughn try to cope with the immense sadness and heartbreak, we turn our focus to supporting the people Shaughn loved most - his wife Celia and children Scarlett and Flynn. Your donation will provide ongoing financial support for Celia as she navigates this impossible time of grief and loss as a single mother to two young children.
Shaughn was born and raised in Australia. There was nothing he could not do and he was good at everything. He was incredibly intelligent as evidenced early on by his high marks in school and law school training. He was charismatic as displayed in his TV and film career. He was energetic as he showed in his athletic feats as a runner, swimmer and F45 enthusiast. He had a wonderful sense of humor with a quick wit and hearty laugh. He took all of these talents to the restaurant business and eventually moved to Maui to be the opening GM of Duke's Beach House Maui in 2009, part of the T S Restaurants family. In 2015, he opened another successful restaurant, Duke's La Jolla, where he has been the only GM. At Duke's La Jolla, Shaughn mentored hundreds of employees and managers, passing along his wisdom, sharing his vast experience and keeping Duke's legacy alive through his hard work and caring aloha. Shaughn was steadfast in community involvement, hosting local sports teams, supporting local events and surf programs and organizing volunteer teams for Father Joe's Village. His influence inside and outside of Duke's was profound, impactful and lasting.
Shaughn poured himself into everything he did but nothing was as important to him as his family. He cherished his family and being a dad was his very favorite thing. He was quick to show a video of Flynn playing baseball and so proud when Scarlett finally beat him in a swim race. He loved to cook dinner for Celia and the kids, play catch in the backyard or plan a fun outing.
Not only is his family devastated emotionally but Shaughn was the main provider. There is nothing anyone can do to take away the pain but we can offer some financial support to ease a little of the burden in the short-term and the long-term. There are monthly bills, tuition payments and eventually college for Scarlett and Flynn. Shaughn was always reaching out and now is the time for us to reach out in honor of him. All of your donations will go to Celia to help with the family's ongoing financial needs.
A service will be held Monday, March 6 at 1:00 pm at
