On Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 2:05 PM, we lost Shane David O'Rourke: a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend.
On Tuesday morning, October 20, Shane, a REALTOR® and proud member of the Real Home Experts team at Real Broker, was driving to show a client a home when he suffered a stroke behind the wheel. He lost consciousness and was in a car accident. The doctors fought for him through eight hours of surgery, but there was nothing more they could do. True to the man he was, his family has asked that his organs be donated, so that even now he can help others.
This fundraiser is for Amanda and Shane's four children. It will help with funeral costs and with day-to-day living in the months ahead. Every dollar goes directly to Amanda through GoFundMe.
In his family's words:
In Loving Memory of Shane David O'Rourke
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we remember and honour the life of Shane David O'Rourke, a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Shane was a man who loved fiercely, lived boldly, and had a way of making people laugh that could brighten even the darkest room. He was fearless, strong, witty, and unforgettable. To know Shane was to know a man who left his mark on the hearts of the people fortunate enough to have him in their lives.
Shane grew up in Brampton before eventually making Cambridge home. Above everything else, Shane was a dedicated father who loved his four children beyond measure. His children were at the centre of his world, and he took immense pride in being there for them. After spending years working in the transportation industry, Shane made the decision to switch careers and enter real estate in 2022. This wasn't simply a career change; it was a choice made out of love. He wanted to be more available to get his kids to their sports, activities, and everything else that mattered to them. For Shane, being present for his children was worth more than anything a job title could ever offer.
In early 2023, Shane met Amanda, and for them, it was love at first sight. From the day they met, they were inseparable. Anyone who knew Shane and Amanda as a couple knew their love was something special. They shared a bond that was impossible to miss, a love that showed in the way they looked at one another, the way they spent their days together, and the way they built their life side by side. Shane was Amanda's husband, best friend, and partner in everything. Their love was fierce, genuine, and deeply felt by everyone around them.
Family was everything to Shane, and he was blessed with a family who loved him just as fiercely. His mother, grandmother, aunts, uncles, sister, and brother were an important part of his life, along with his three nephews, two nieces, and two great-nephews. Shane was especially proud of his nephews Josh, Justin, and Jordan. He loved those boys dearly and took tremendous pride in the men they had grown into. His love for them was unwavering, and seeing them become the men they are today meant so much to him.
Then there was Todd, Shane's best friend of more years than either of them would probably care to admit. Their friendship was a lifetime of memories, mischief, and a bond that time could never break. They were partners in crime through the years, sharing the kind of friendship that doesn't need explaining to anyone outside of it. No matter how much life changed, Shane never stopped holding on to that bond. Some friendships become family, and theirs was exactly that.
And then there was hockey.
Shane's hockey family was enormous, and it was so much more than a game. It was the friendships, the laughs, the shared memories, and the community that came with it. It was the parking-lot hockey strategy talks, the "talage beers," the phone calls to discuss upcoming games and seasons, and the latest episode of the Chickletts podcast. And through every season, win or lose, Shane was a loyal Toronto Maple Leafs fan, blue and white through and through. It was the conversations that could go on forever, the familiar faces, and the people who became part of his life through their shared love of the game.
To Shane's hockey family: he loved you all fiercely. You weren't just people he played hockey with or talked hockey with. You were his people, his friends, and a huge part of his world. The memories you made together will forever be part of his story.
Matt Morrison, you were so much more than a friend to Shane. You were his hockey dad, his brother, and someone he held close to his heart. He loved you, and the bond you shared meant the world to him.
Shane's life was built around the people he loved. He showed up for his children, stood by his family, treasured his friendships, and found joy in the people and moments that made life meaningful. He had a wicked sense of humour, a fearless spirit, and a heart that loved without reservation. He was the kind of man who could make anyone laugh, bring light into a room, and leave people with stories they would tell for years to come.
The loss of Shane is devastating beyond words. He leaves behind a space that can never truly be filled and a love that will never disappear. His time with us was far too short, but the impact he made will live on in his children, his wife, his family, his friends, and every person who was lucky enough to call him theirs.
Shane will be missed more than words could ever express. He will be remembered in the laughter he shared, the friendships he held close, the hockey conversations that will never quite be the same, and, most importantly, in the love he gave so freely.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Never forgotten.
Celebration of life details will be shared here as soon as they are confirmed.
If you're able to give, thank you. If you can't, sharing this page and keeping Shane's family in your thoughts means just as much.
