This is a supplementary fund for Sebastian's wife and children set up by Amanda El-Dakhakhni, a U.S.-based friend of Sebastian, for those who would like to make donations to Sebastian's family in USD or CAD. (This fundraiser was set up in response to a request from Sebastian's family to help reduce fees taken by Paypal on donations made in those currencies.)

We have included links to those donation pages below, but we encourage you to donate via this GoFundMe page if you plan to donate in USD or CAD. We will transfer 100% of donations collected here directly to Sebastian's wife at a later date.

It is with a very heavy heart that I share that Sebastian Lodemann tragically passed away on November 9, 2023. Many of you will have known him as a collaborator and friend of many within this community and as someone who cared deeply about a better future.

I am sharing a statement about Sebastian from the team at Successif, where Sebastian was a founding member:

With immense sadness, Successif announces the passing of one of our own, Sebastian Lodemann, who lost his life on November 9th, 2023, in a completely unexpected and sudden accident. Sebastian was not just a colleague, he was a friend. Those who have met him know how humble and kind he was, in addition to being a brilliant and energetic person full of light. Sebastian was deeply altruistic, curious, and took seriously both the challenges facing our world, and its potential. He loved connecting with humans from across the globe and supporting as many people as he could, so there will be a wide international community of people who will keenly feel his absence.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Sebastian's wife, his children, his parents and the rest of their family during this incredibly difficult time. We stand with them in mourning and in honoring the memory of a wonderful person who was taken from us far too soon.
