In loving memory of Samuel (Sammy) Iwelu
Donation protected
It is with a heavy heart that friends and loved ones of Samuel (Sammy) Iwelu are fundraising to cover the costs of a befitting burial. We would like to give the opportunity to those who cared and were impacted by Sammy whilst he was alive, or who simply wish to show loving kindness, to join this endeavour to support the family at this difficult time.
Sammy lived in the UK but travelled to Abuja Nigeria to attend a wedding. Whilst there, A mentor Mr Femi Osibona insisted on hosting him in lagos, an invite *Sammy* later accepted. *During his stay in Lagos* Mr Femi *took Sammy on a tour of his latest project, The Luxury Apartment Buildings in Ikoyi Lagos* . Tragically, *on Monday 1 November 2021, at approximately 2:30pm* , the building collapsed whilst Sammy was still inside, alongside many others. As rescue efforts continued, Sammy’s sisters flew immediately to Nigeria and camped outside the site for three days with the faith and hope that their brother would be recovered alive.
Unfortunately, this was not to be the case as Sammy’s body was found lifeless. The rescue mission was flawed and *created such a horrific scene for anyone *whose* loved ones *were* trapped *inside* to endure.
*(More posts on this horrific event can be found on Instagram: #IkoyiBuildingCollapse)*.
*May we never be found wanting*.
Sammy recently celebrated his 35th birthday (*Thursday* 21 October 2021) and is survived by his 4-year-old son and 4 sisters, who also *live* in the UK. The family intend to bring Sammy back to where he lived, so that he is close to friends and relatives who will continue to support his immediate family and maintain the upkeep of his resting place.
We understand that this is not an expense that Sammy’s family ever thought they would have to bear so suddenly. We aim to use this fundraising effort to help cover the costs of Sammy’s funeral and any other expenses, with the hope to ease the burden on the family.
Sammy was a hardworking, respectful, jovial, compassionate, dynamic young man with so much promise and a business sense that was sure to make him a millionaire.
Your time with us was cut short so brutally but we will never forget you Sammy!! Your light will shine on forever in our hearts. We are comforted in knowing you are now with your creator!
