Help Us Lay Samantha “Sammy” Batte to Rest
God calls his favorites home first.
With broken hearts, we share the passing of our beloved Samantha Batte—known to many simply as Sammy. Some of you may know her as “Zammybites” online. She was goofy yet elegant and had a way of lighting up the room. Sammy was a devoted mother, sister, daughter, aunt, granddaughter, and fiancée. She was the glue that held our family together. She was our happiness and light when all was dark. If you met her, you’d never forget her. She loved early 2000s alt music, family, karaoke, spas, cooking and MOST of all, her daughter Coraline.
On April 12, 2025, after six draining months of battling for her life, we said goodbye to the woman who brought so much light, love, and strength into every life she touched.
We were going to go out as a family to the When We Were Young festival. She was so excited, we all were. It was supposed to be nostalgia overload #WhenWeWereYoung and so we’d bought the tickets on layaway. En route to the concert everything went wrong.
Sammy had been sickly her whole life. While we always carried worry in our hearts, she never let her health define her. She lived fully, joyfully, and faithfully—spreading love and light wherever she went. She made the best of every moment she had, until her body could no longer keep up. She passed away at just 32 years old.
Her medical battle began in October 2024, when her heart suddenly stopped en route to the When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas. She was so excited and was waiting the whole year for us to go as a family. It was a life goal. Even after regaining consciousness at the hospital she was all about it!
She coded three times at Barstow Community Hospital and miraculously survived. We were filled with hope as she began physical therapy and slowly started to recover. We even kept her apartment paid for, hoping she’d come back home to it.
But her body was wearing down. When she needed specialized dialysis that Barstow couldn’t provide, she was cleared for transfer to Loma Linda Hospital—one of the only places capable of helping her. However, the transfer was delayed. The hospital requested a letter from her insurance confirming they would cover up to 200% of the care costs due to their out-of-network status. Everything—including the aircraft—was ready when the delay stopped everything. That time lost led to another cardiac event. Sammy coded again before the transfer and never woke back up.
Already battling lupus, her body couldn’t recover. Her organs failed, and doctors were never able to find the cause in time.
Sammy was the most family-oriented and God-loving woman you could ever meet. Her love was unwavering, her laughter unforgettable, and her presence healing. But more than anything—her world was her 9-year-old daughter, Coraline Rin. Their bond was indescribable, and our hearts ache knowing Coraline must now navigate the world without her mom.
We are raising funds to provide Sammy with the casket, funeral, and burial she deserves. Every donation helps. And if you’re unable to give, please consider sharing this to help us reach others who can.
Thank you for standing with us in honoring the life, love, and legacy of our Sammy.
