In Loving Memory of Sam Houy

6/12/1976-12/22/2024

It is with great sadness that I share the devastating news of the passing of my good friend’s husband, Sam Houy.

Gem Houy recently lost her father on 12/3/24. Almost 3 weeks later, her husband of 17 years passed away on 12/22/24.

Ten years ago, Sam was diagnosed with a rare and progressive genetic neuromuscular disorder called Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 3. Despite this life-changing condition, Sam and Gem did the best they could to adapt to all the changes and continued to work hard on providing for their children.

On 12/13/24, Sam ended up in the ICU on a ventilator due to aspiration pneumonia and sepsis. Gem and family hoped and prayed that Sam would make it out of the ICU, but he was not doing very well.

On 12/22/24, after putting up a good fight, Sam passed away with Gem, his son Nick, their eldest son Tyler, and other family members by his side.

He leaves behind a wonderful and loving wife and five amazing children. His family will always remember the diligent provider he was, him being a great husband, and how much he loved being a father.

While Gem navigates through this challenging time and tends to the many responsibilities that come with losing a spouse, on top of caring for her four children, I’d love to raise some funeral funds for her, in hopes to ease some of the burden.
