In Loving Memory of Polly: Giving Back to the Rescue That Gave Me My Best Friend
My dog, Polly—my best friend, my quiet protector, my everything—crossed the rainbow bridge on March 17, 2026. She was a senior warrior who fought silently through incredible challenges. I held her close at the end, telling her over and over what a good girl she was, how blessed I felt to have had her, how she always made me feel safe in an unsafe world, and how she'd given me the strength to keep going when I was sick just so I could come home to her. I promised her I'd see her again in the blink of an eye.
For years, I've volunteered several days a week at the rescue—walking anxious dogs (especially pitbulls affected by breed bans), giving them love and chances when the world writes them off. It's exhausting, but coming home to Polly's wagging tail made it all worthwhile. She was my reason to push through. Now that she's gone, the best way I know to honor her is to give back to the rescue that saved her and continues saving dogs just like her every day. They provide medical care, food, supplies, and hope to animals who need second chances—the same kind Polly got when she found me.
