Friends and family, with deep vulnerability, I am reaching out for help to lay my mom, Phon Sovann to rest.
Sadly, in the early morning of Tuesday, August 26, she passed away at home.
She was a caring sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
Like so many in our community, my mom survived a war, a genocide and set foot to a new world in hopes of a better life for her family.
One day at a time, she tried her best to create a new home, a safe life.
Year after year, her strength and will was the engine of our family. Despite her tough as nails demeanor, she always kept her arms and her heart open to family, friends, and her community.
Unfortunately, nine years ago, she suffered a stroke and was diagnosed with early onset dementia.
It had been a slow and painful decline since - hospital visits and scares, forgetting faces and names of loved ones...
Throughout the years, her mind and body could no longer match her spirit and we knew time was limited. Though, we appreciated and held onto all the little moments of joy we were able to share.
During this difficult time, I'd like to thank you all so much for reading and for all of your love, support, and kind words.
With Gratitude,
Sally
