Patrick Murphy (16)  was nothing short of an “All-Star” inspiration.

Patrick can be best described as a gentle giant and a young man of few words. Patrick will not be remembered for his speed or grace but will be remembered as a kind, caring, loving, sensitive young man that did his best to follow rules, be kind to everyone and love his family. His passion for sports, hunting, and fishing were unmatched. Patrick had a special ability to recall statistics for just about any sports team. His infectious laugh and handsome smile melted his mother's heart. Patrick was a rising star at Easton High School. At EHS he played for Warriors baseball, soccer and basketball.  Patrick was known for writing the word “kindness” on his baseball hats. His absence has created a painful void that will linger forever.

On Saturday, June 23, Patrick Murphy was spending the day fishing with his father. While on their boat, Patrick developed a headache and was not feeling well. His father rushed him back to the shore where he met his mother. Once home things took a turn for the worst when Patrick became unresponsive and collapsed in the shower. Patrick was rushed to Easton Memorial Hospital by ambulance. A CT scan showed that Patrick was suffering from a massive spontaneous subarachnoid bleed, similar to a hemorrhagic stroke. Further interpretation of the CT scan determined that the bleeding in his brain was the result of a congenital malformation of the arteries and veins in his brain known as an arteriovenous malformation (AVM).  Patrick was flown to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, MD. He was placed in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and despite exhaustive efforts to save Patrick’s life, the hospital staff was not able to reverse the damage that had already been done by the bleeding.

Patrick passed away at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center on June 26th, 2018 surrounded by family and friends.

One week prior, Patrick Murphy passed his driving test and officially became a licensed driver. While filling out the paperwork with the MVA, Patrick chose to register as an organ donor. Patrick's driver's license arrived in the mail Saturday, June 23, 2018, while he was fishing with his father. His license displayed the red heart that identified him as an organ donor. The family worked with Living Legacy of Maryland, an organ donation foundation to honor his wishes. Patrick’s selfless donation saved the lives of seven others.
