In Loving Memory of Pang Kou Her (Paj Kub Hawj)

Donation protected
On Wednesday, March 3, 2021, we lost an amazing sister, aunt, mother… and a new grandmother. Just one day after her first grandchild was born, Pang Kou Her (Paj Kub Hawj) passed away. Paj Kub Hawj’s compassionate and gentle soul is one that will be missed for eternity.

On November 15, 2020, Paj Kub Hawj experienced a life-threatening hemorrhagic stroke that left her in the ICU for months. While waiting for her to recover, her husband, Ge Moua passed away on November 28, 2020. Because of her state of unconsciousness, Paj Kub was unable to say good-bye to the love of her life. While their children were wrapping up the funeral processions for their father, their mother also passed away suddenly. Pang Kou Her and Ge Moua leave behind their five children, Leng, Ka, Kady, Chayeng, and PhenZong, one son-in-law Thomas and their only grandchild Menji Her, who they were unable to meet before they passed.

Paj Kub Hawj devoted her entire life to her family and made sure every day was filled with love and warmth. As a young girl during the war, she helped carry her younger siblings on her back as she was crossing jungles and rivers, meanwhile staring down life-and-death situations with courage and hope. In the refugee camps, she worked hard to provide for her family by cooking and selling street food. When she came to the United States, she gave up her education to raise her children. Due to her lack of formal education, Paj Kub worked labor-intensive jobs such as farming, factory lines, and sewing. Although the jobs took a toll on her physical health, she never gave up and worked tirelessly. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she used her talents to sew face masks to give away to those in need. No matter what hardships occurred, she always persevered with grace, strength, and generosity.

Paj Kub was gentle and carried an aura of light. She loved gardening and spent a lot of time harvesting vegetables and herbs in her home garden. Beyond her garden, Paj Kub was someone who could plant seeds in barren fields and make miracles grow. She always tended to things with affection and took her time to nurture everything, even when all hope seems lost. When others needed help, she never hesitated to give her support. She went out of her way to organize mutual aid efforts to help family members who were experiencing poverty back in Laos and Thailand. Although growing up in poverty, Paj Kub always moved through the world with abundance and care. When she wasn’t gardening, Paj Kub loved to travel with her husband, cook for her family, and put together beautiful flower arrangements. Paj Kub was an incredible wife who took care of her husband. They would always wear matching outfits with cute designs. She was an amazing mother who had playful conversations with her children, while also supporting them through all of their endeavors. She was someone who cared deeply about others and was always proactive in bringing more kindness into this world.

We will miss Paj Kub dearly and her warmth will always stay with us forever. We hope that Paj Kub will be reunited with her husband where they will continue their love story.

The funeral date is April 11th (8am-10pm) at St Paul Funeral Home. The burial is April 12th (10am) at Hillside Cemetary.

All support during this time are greatly appreciated, especially as the children are planning back-to-back funerals for their parents. Donations will go toward traditional Hmong funeral costs for Paj Kub and outstanding medical bills. Thank you so much, stay safe.
