My name is Renee Hein and I am the eldest daughter of our mom, Gloria Gutierrez.
Our Mom was diagnosed with non alcoholic fatty liver disease on December 1, 2016. Since then, she has been in and out of the hospital. Also, not only was her liver failing but her kidneys were failing too.
On April 29, 2020, she was admitted to Houston Methodist hospital to start dialysis treatments. On May 6, 2020, she had an allergic reaction to a drug and was taken into the ICU and had to be intubated. May 9, 2020, I received a call that Mom had a donor. She was blessed to receive a liver and a kidney and had the liver transplant on May 9, 2020 and the kidney transplant on May 10, 2020. Unfortunately, Mom developed Graft vs Host Disease which is a complication that can happen with transplants but is very rare. The medication for that disease alone is $18,000/month. About a month ago, our Mom also had three heart attacks, sepsis and pneumonia. Several CT Scans, MRI's, ultrasounds, dialysis treatments, blood infusions, platelet infusions, immunosuppressants, etc. have been administered. She has endured so much.
Our sweet Mom passed away peacefully on November 13, 2020.
