In loving memory of our Father Illya Rechytskyy

My name is Veronika, and I am the daughter of Illya Rechytskyy. I am organizing this foundraiser to help cover the costs of my father's funeral.

On July 1, Illya Rechytskyy was tragically swept away by the current of the Cheakamus River in Whistler. 

Since then, we have made every possible effort to find him, together with search and rescue teams, volunteers, and as a family searching tirelessly for an entire month. 

After 30 long days of searching we finally found him, he had been swept away by the river’s current and carried into Daisy Lake. 

Throughout his life, he selflessly volunteered and helped others in need. This time, it is our family humbly asking for help to give him the farewell he deserves.

Our father was an Israeli citizen and a proud Jew who lived for more than ten years in the city of Ofakim, Israel. He came to Canada to visit his children on vacation, spending precious family time with us. 

He was a writer, an artist, and a devoted family man who loved to share his creations with everyone around him. His life was filled with creativity, kindness, and love for his family and community.

We are now facing the difficult task of arranging his funeral and burial here in Canada, far from home.

ב־1 ביולי, איליה רֶצ'יצקי נסחף בטרגדיה בזרם נהר צ'קאמוס בוויסלר. מאז, עשינו כל מאמץ אפשרי כדי למצוא אותו, יחד עם צוותי חיפוש והצלה, מתנדבים, וכמשפחה שחיפשה ללא לאות במשך חודש שלם. לאחר 30 ימי חיפושים ארוכים, מצאנו אותו — הוא נסחף בזרם הנהר ונישא אל תוך אגם דייזי.

במהלך חייו, הוא התנדב ועזר לאחרים ללא תנאים. הפעם, זו המשפחה שלנו שמבקשת בענווה עזרה כדי להיפרד ממנו כפי שמגיע לו. אבינו היה אזרח ישראלי ויהודי גאה, שחי יותר מעשר שנים בעיר אופקים שבישראל. הוא הגיע לקנדה כדי לבקר את ילדיו בחופשה, וזכה לבלות איתנו זמן משפחתי יקר. הוא היה סופר, אמן, ואיש משפחה מסור, שאהב לשתף את יצירותיו עם כל הסובבים אותו. חייו היו מלאים ביצירתיות, טוב לב, ואהבה למשפחתו ולקהילתו.

כעת אנו ניצבים בפני המשימה הקשה של ארגון הלוויה והקבורה שלו כאן בקנדה, הרחק מהבית. כל תמיכה שתעזור למשפחתנו לכסות את עלויות המסע האחרון שלו משמעותית עבורנו. אנו מודים לכם מעומק הלב על טוב הלב והחמלה שלכם.
