On November 18th I lost my dear mother and friend to a five year battle with lung cancer. My children lost their sweet nana. She has been our North Star and a guiding force of love since the moment of conception for each of us. If you knew her, you know she selflessly gave to her family, community, sat with the sick and elderly, volunteered countless hours, and was a thoughtful and loyal friend. She was the very essence of love despite the hardship in her life or the challenges she faced.
I am at a loss for words for what she meant to me. She was my heart, and the love I feel and felt for this woman is not easily expressed in words. I've devoted so much of my time and attention to her over the last few years and as a result, my day is empty without her.
With her passing, the weight of the grief has been overwhelming, and on top of the grief, we are faced with the financial struggle of funeral and travel expenses, loss of wages (I am a self-employed contractor), and tying up loose ends in my mom's personal finances. We are asking our community for assistance and support for my mom's funeral on December 17th and the expenses that are incurring as a result.
We were able to provide a simple memorial service here in NC through the generosity of our dear friends, but now as we travel home to NY to honor my mother's life, we are faced with the weight of the expenses that are rapidly adding up. Thankfully, my mom had a small life insurance policy that has covered her cremation and a few other expenses that have incurred, but it won't cover all of the expenses that need to be taken care of. We have received a little money from a couple of people to help with expenses, but the needs are greater than her insurance policy and what has been given to us towards expenses.
Our family appreciates any help you can provide during this time of grief. We understand this is a tough time with the weight of the holidays approaching. Please know, no donation is too small. Every dollar adds up and assists us with taking care of the costs that give my mother the memorial she deserves. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for assisting us and for supporting our family in our time of need and grief.
