It breaks our hearts to share that, after three and a half years of unimaginable strength and bravery, our beautiful son Oliver has passed away.
Oliver endured more in his short life than anyone ever should. His initial treatment caused severe nerve damage and muscle wastage, leaving him unable to walk and spending almost a year extremely unwell, in isolation and in hospital. Although this treatment put his leukaemia into remission, he had to relearn how to walk and rebuild his strength.
Tragically, the leukaemia returned. A second round of treatment meant another long stay in isolation at Great Ormond Street Hospital. We had a brief moment of hope when he entered remission again, but it lasted only three months before another relapse.
Following a third relapse, Oliver underwent a stem cell transplant. He spent four long months in hospital, once again in isolation and seriously unwell. The leukaemia returned devastatingly quickly after the transplant. Doctors made one final attempt with chemotherapy, but Oliver’s body reacted very badly after just the first dose. There were no further treatment options available.
Through everything, Oliver showed incredible courage. He was so loved, and he fought for so long.
We are raising funds to create a peaceful and beautiful resting place for Oliver one that honours the special, courageous, and wonderful boy he was. A lover of nature who delighted in growing his own plants, Olly’s resting place will be beneath a beautiful tree with views of the hills, and a bench for his family and friends to visit, remember, and be with him.
Any remaining funds will help support funeral costs and other expenses as we navigate this devastating loss and begin to grieve.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read Oliver’s story, for remembering him, and for any support you are able to give. Your kindness means more to our family than words can ever express.
Matt xxx
