IN LOVING MEMORY OF MYRA SCOGGINS AVANT

My name is Laura Tilley. I am raising money to help my family and me with the process of putting my mother to rest. My mother, Myra Scoggins Avant, was a strong-willed woman. She always helped anybody she could with what she had, even if it put her in the hole. Myra was an amazing grandmother and mother. She has helped me instill good values in my children. Myra has had a difficult time these last 15 years or so. She quit her job to take care of her Father, who was her world and rock. He passed away from cancer in October of 2010. After his death, she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. During her fight with Breast Cancer, she had to have a Mastectomy performed on her left breast and beat Breast Cancer. While all this was happening, she started caring for her mother. After some unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances, she lost her husband to a Heart Attack in 2014. After these events, Myra pressed on ensuring she and her mother had what they needed, taking on small side jobs to ensure their needs were met. In February of this year, Myra had some eye problems, so she went to the doctor. Myra was diagnosed with a tumor in her brain. After further investigation, she was diagnosed with Breast cancer again as well. While treatment was happening in NC she started to develop fluid buildup in her abdomen. So, while she was taking care of her mother and receiving treatment for her brain tumor, she also had to frequent the hospital and have the fluid drained. Myra pressed on. At the beginning of July, after the doctors discovered that cancer had spread to her bones, my family and I went from Georgia to North Carolina to bring them back to Georgia. With no in-home support network or help inside the home, I felt that I could make the time she had left more stress-free and less demanding physically. Once we got her and my Grandmother (86 years old ) down here to Georgia, we got them settled in the bedroom we had made up for them. We tried to ensure she was comfortable as possible during her time here. After a week with us, she needed to have the fluid drained again. She was taken to the hospital and had a fresh look at everything going on while she was there. After further investigation, Myra's new doctor decided she would be a good candidate for treatment. Shortly after starting treatment, things took a turn for the worse. An infection was discovered in her abdomen (the reason for the fluid build-up), and it had transferred to her blood.
As you could expect, our time with her was short afterward.
She never stopped fighting. Even with all the odds against her, she kept fighting. This past month has been challenging for my family and me, both financially and emotionally. My family covered the expenses for the move and bedroom setup. And now, with her passing, we have no way to cover the costs for her final wishes. Thank you to everyone who has reached out. I will keep everyone updated as soon as I find out things.
