In Loving Memory of My Grandpa

Hello, my name is Joanna Lee, and I am the granddaughter of the late Kang Ok Lee.

 

My grandpa was the most selfless, considerate, affectionate, devoted grandpa for five loving grandchildren.

As a man of God, my grandpa stayed faithful and devoted even up to the very end. With my grandma, they always prayed, asking for blessings upon our family and always giving thanks for everyone and everything. He truly made our family's lives so worthwhile and valuable, for he taught us how to love and care for someone unconditionally and selflessly.

 

My grandpa was indeed the joy and sunshine of our family. Even in our darkest and toughest times, he never failed to make us laugh and warm our hearts. One memory I recall was when he drove his grandchildren to Griffth Park to make us happy. He would drive for hours to show us ducks swimming in the pond or point to random clouds in the sky, all to see our smiles or hear our laughter. I confidently say that he gave me, my sister, and cousins the best childhoods we could ask for.

 

And inevitably, my grandpa breathed his last breath on 09/11/21. But by God's grace, he heard and received his family's last goodbye just a day before his passing. And in his final moments, he was surrounded by his family, who loved and cherished him so much. Our family grieves over his passing. Yet, we also rejoice that he now lies peacefully in the presence of God.

 

While our family was somewhat aware and ready for his passing, we were quite taken aback by the following events. As many people may know, planning a funeral and memorial is much more costly and time-consuming than expected. We need to account for several components, such as booking a chapel for a memorial service, reserving a location for his burial, buying a casket, and so forth. We want to honor his death and hold a proper funeral, but it's quite difficult to do so with the burdensome cost of everything.
