On January 25th, 2020, Retd MSgt Silas Eubanks III passed away after a long battle with brain cancer. He served in the United States Air Forces for 24 years. He was 62 years old and survived by his wife of 34 years, Pauline, two daughters, Laverne and Laquita, three grandchildren, his father, two sisters and two brothers. He was an avid basketball fan and player, loved to golf his brother and nephew
In 2016 we discovered that he had a prolactinoma, a rare tumour that developed in the pituitary area of his brain. He went through three surgeries, the last being in August 2019 and endured 100 rounds of radiation therapy. Unfortunately, we discovered shortly after that the tumour had metastasized into cancer. By this time, cancer had spread throughout his brain making any further surgery impossible. By the end, it spread to the lining of his brain as well as his lungs.
After the second surgery, my family and I learned that the tumour affected areas of his brain that governed his ability to regulate body temperature, hunger, impulse control, resistance to addiction and overall mental capacity. His cancer only exasperated these changes in him. Silas was proud of his mental acuity, and his mathematical ability was always amazing to me as a child, so the loss of mental capacity hit him and all of us hardest of all.
Unfortunately, since his passing, we've found that he'd cancelled all of life insurance policies and withdrew all of his retirement accounts during the latter part of his illness. This has left us unable to provide him with even a modest funeral. Due to his service and dedication to his country, we've secured a plot for him in Leavenworth, KS. We'll need the funds before his wake and burial which will be Feb. 13 and 14th. Anything you are able to contribute will be greatly appreciated.
All funds donated will go towards the funeral expenses and will be handled by his immediate family.
