It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved husband, father, teammate, and friend, Michael Hui Li.
On July 12, 2025, around 3:30 a.m., Michael was participating in an overnight relay race, pacing a female teammate along a designated course. In his characteristic spirit of care and selflessness, he stepped forward out of concern for her safety. What began as a joyful team event took a heartbreaking turn. Despite being airlifted to the nearest hospital and receiving the best possible care, Michael passed away on July 14, 2025, at 6:32 a.m., surrounded by loved ones.
Michael was a man of quiet strength and unwavering kindness. He was a devoted husband and the sole provider for his family, including his 13-year-old son. As a CPA and senior manager, he was deeply respected in his workplace—not just for his professional excellence, but for his humility, generosity, and willingness to support others without hesitation.
Faith was central to Michael’s life. He served his church community faithfully for many years—not only as a worship leader, but also as a cell group leader and district leader. His love for God was evident in everything he did—from his home, to his workplace, to every friendship and act of service. He led with integrity, compassion, and a deep heart for others.
Michael also discovered a second passion in running. He was a familiar and inspiring presence on the Vancouver running circuit, a five-time World Marathon Major finisher, and just one star away from completing his six-star medal journey. He found joy not just in the races, but in encouraging and supporting fellow runners—always putting others before himself.
Michael was, and remains, a protector, a giver, and a guiding light to those who knew him. His loss has left an unimaginable void, but his legacy of love, faith, and service lives on.
In this season of grief, we humbly ask for your support. Your generosity will help ease the financial burden on his wife and young son as they navigate life without him and honor the memory of a man who gave so much to others.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your prayers, support, and compassion. Michael's life touched many, and his spirit will continue to shine through all of us.
With gratitude,
Family and Friends of Michael Hui Li
