Dear friends and community,

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved sister and friend, Mbonella Phiri-Nkhomo, who left us on July 26, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Ndola, Zambia, Mbonella’s life was a journey of intellect, compassion, and service. She completed her education at Kansenshi Secondary School, went on to study Pharmacy at Evelyn Hone College, and later moved to Paris, France to further her education in the same field. Her pursuit of knowledge and purpose led her across the globe—but wherever she went, she left behind kindness and inspiration.

In 1989, she immigrated to Canada, where her radiant smile and generous heart touched the lives of many. Fluent in Tumbuka, Bemba, Shona, Ndebele, English, French, and Spanish, Mbonella was a bridge across cultures and a beacon of understanding.

She contributed her talents on a global scale, working as a UN observer to the historic South African election in 1994. She went to Bosnia in 1996., and also extended her humanitarian efforts to Haiti, the Caribbean, and Canada—serving communities in times of great need.

In Ontario, she found her professional home at RoyFoss Automotive Group, where she was respected for her professionalism and loved for her warmth.

Mbonella was diagnosed with cancer in mid-2023, and began treatment in early 2024. Throughout her illness, she remained joyful, hopeful, and rooted in her Christian faith, which was the foundation of her strength and grace.

She will be remembered as a woman of faith, service, and love—a soul who brought light into every room and every life she touched.
