On January 6, 2022, we unexpectedly lost our dear sister, aunt, great aunt, Mary Vivian Rehm. Mary Vivian had recent struggles with her health, but had turned a corner. We were excited for her and looking forward to many more years. But that was not to be. We were blessed to have just celebrated a wonderful and joyous Christmas with her at her home the weekend before her passing.
Because so many of you have reached out to ask how you can help, we were prompted to set up this GoFundMe account to assist with final expenses. Thank you all for your kindness and for being a part of Mary Vivian's journey.
A memorial service will be held February 19, 2022 at 2:30 PM at Faith Family Church, 1262 US-77 #5689, Hallettsville, Texas 77964.
See below for the obituary:
Mary Vivian Rehm passed away unexpectedly the morning of January 6, 2022. Mary was born in Hallettsville on October 28, 1960 to Clarence and Marge Rehm. She was the seventh born of their nine children.
Mary and her siblings grew up on their family farm almost five miles south of Hallettsville. Mary milked cows, fished, rode horses and enjoyed all the things that a country life has to offer. It was a good childhood.
Mary attended Sacred Heart School. In her high school years she was an honor student and received the coveted end-of-season Spirit Stick all four years of high school.
After her graduation in May of 1979, Mary went into the mortgage loan servicing industry. She worked in Austin for seventeen years for the same company that changed names several time but was called Guaranty Residential Lending, Inc. when she left. From there she moved to San Antonio to work for Washington Mutual Bank. She was then offered a Senior Investment Analyst position with Aegis Mortgage Corporation in Houston where she received an excellent peak performance score. Mary was then offered a job with Residential Credit Solutions, Inc. of Fort Worth to continue working as a Senior Investment Analyst.
While working away from Hallettsville, Mary made frequent trips back to visit family. She also enjoyed yearly trips to Rockport, Texas (where her Mom was raised) for family vacations. At family gatherings, Mary was always "the life of the party" with her wit and humor. Having never married or had children of her own, she thoroughly enjoyed her nieces and nephews and showered them with many gifts. They all have very fond memories of their Aunt Mary. Once she even dressed as Santa and did a performance to music for them.
In 2016 Mary suffered a severe health scare and was transported by ambulance to the hospital. That helped her realize that she didn't want to be so far away from all her family anymore. She made the decision to move back to Hallettsville where she took a job at Walmart. For the last four years she also worked part time at the Lavaca County Tax Office during their busy season from October to February. Mary was loved and respected by her co-workers.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Joseph Rehm and Marge Stewart Rehm, two siblings, Pat Rehm and Rita Grafe, a sister-in-law, Debbie Rehm Honc and several infant niece and nephews. She is survived by three brothers; Ronnie Rehm and wife Mary Jane (Janak), Myron Rehm and wife Mag (Janak), Morris Rehm and wife Raechel (Revel), three sisters; Barbara Michalcik and husband Glenn, Joyce Eisler and husband James, Madeleine Vornsand and husband Allen, and one brother-in-law; Bob Grafe, and many adoring nieces and nephews.
