Friends and Family,

We are reaching out on behalf of our close friend and Birthright (Taglit) soldier, Ofir Shalom. Ofir is a combat soldier and is currently serving on the front lines to secure Israel’s border in the South. His unit is in Kibbutz Nir Am, fighting off remaining terrorists in the area and searching for survivors.

With great sadness, we must share that one of Ofir’s closest friends, Mark Shindel (23), died in battle yesterday. Mark was living in Israel away from his family to serve his country. Mark studied at university in Be’er Sheva, loved to play soccer, was an avid volunteer, and has been described as “funny, smart, and very brave” by his friends. He was an incredible friend and brother who always put others before himself. If you are able, please donate to this GoFundMe to support Mark’s funeral, which will take place tomorrow (10/12/2023).
