In loving memory of Marcia Vandehey Loynd
Donation protected
We were married for 48 years and I took this evocative picture while I was her caregiver before she died in 2012 of a recurrence of breast cancer. We had moved to Tucson in 1999 and Marcia first volunteered at the University of Arizona Cancer Center, then became a patient advocate member of the staff. Marcia graduated from Lawrence Conservatory of Music in Appleton, Wisconsin and went on to graduate work at the University of Wisconsin, Madison where we met and were married. She was trained as a musician, later becoming a music publisher, and our lives overflowed with the sounds of music. Some years after her death from cancer I had the opportunity to assume the leadership of a company developing a promising new approach to medicines for hard-to-treat solid tumors, which I undertook partly on the basis of what she had taught me about cancer and cancer treatment. Now that company is on the verge of producing "proof-of-concept" data that could open up a pathway toward clinical trials. I know Marcia would be pleased and proud if this Memorial GoFundMe could provide some of the funds needed to take this step forward. Will you join hands with us to help realize the promise of better treatement outcomes and improved patient experience, both of which were so very important to Marcia in her role as patient advocate?
