In Loving Memory of Malekai “Kai”
On the 7th of September 2026, our beautiful boy Malekai — our Kai — peacefully drifted off into heaven.
There are no words that could ever explain the heartbreak of losing a child, especially after watching them fight so incredibly hard.
Kai’s journey was one that no child should ever have had to endure. After being diagnosed with brain cancer in 2024, our lives changed forever. He underwent major brain surgery and was left with a severe acquired brain injury and incredibly complex medical needs.
From that moment, our lives revolved around Kai.
Hospital rooms became familiar. Appointments, procedures, medications, equipment, support workers and constant care became our normal. We watched him face things most adults could never imagine facing, and through all of it, he remained our beautiful Kai.
We fought beside him every single day.
And on September 7th, our fight changed.
Instead of fighting to keep him here, we now have to learn how to live in a world where he isn’t physically beside us.
Kai wasn’t just a child with cancer or a medically complex child. He was a son. A big brother. A grandson. A nephew. A friend. He was deeply loved, and his life was so much bigger than everything that happened medically.
Our family has spent the last few years doing everything possible to care for Kai while also raising his three younger siblings. Right now, we need time to simply be his family, grieve him, support his brothers and sister through the loss of their big brother, and give Kai the beautiful farewell he deserves.
This GoFundMe has been created to help relieve some of the financial pressure surrounding Kai’s passing, including his funeral and memorial expenses, time away from work and the unexpected costs that come with losing a child.
Asking for help is never easy, and there is absolutely no expectation for anyone to donate. Sharing Kai’s story or this fundraiser means just as much to us.
To everyone who loved our boy, supported him, cared for him, prayed for him, followed his journey or simply kept our family in their thoughts — thank you.
We will spend the rest of our lives carrying him with us.
Our beautiful Kai.
Forever our eldest boy.
Forever their big brother.
Forever loved.
Forever 12.
