It is with deep sadness that we share the sudden passing of our beloved Malachi, who left us far too soon on the 3rd July at the age of 21. He was a son, brother, nephew, cousin, grandson and friend. We are truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, prayers and condolences received during this difficult time. We thank you all sincerely.
Malachi was truly a special soul. He had a smile that would brighten any room and a presence that brought joy, warmth, and laughter. Born with a rare condition called Lesch- Nyhan Syndrome, Malachi faced so many challenges in his life than most people could ever imagine. His condition involved involuntarily self harm and he was in extreme pain most days due to his muscle spasms (dystonia) that were linked to the condition. Yet, despite the pain and tribulations, Malachi's spirit continued to remain strong.
Over the past year, Malachi endured a long and difficult hospital admission. The end result left him with a breathing tube placed in his airways to support his breathing, due to the collapsing of his airways. This meant that Malachi was no longer able to vocalise, smell and breathe independently by himself. He spent over a year and a half in hospital, including nine extremely difficult months in intensive care. This was so devastating for the family to see and we can only imagine what emotional and physical trauma this caused Malachi. Despite the suffering, he never gave up- his bravery and strength throughout were nothing short of remarkable! He taught us all about courage, love and grace in the face of adversity.
We as a family are absolutely devastated by this loss, but we are committed to giving Malachi the farewell he truly deserves.
We kindly ask for any contributions to help us with the costs of Malachi's funeral arrangements. No donation is too small and every bit of support will help us to honour his life in the most beautiful way possible. Any tributes you would like to leave are also welcomed.
Thank you for standing with us during this time. Your kindness and generosity means a lot to our family.
Melanie (Mum) and Sharaya (Sister) are running this fundraising. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
With love and gratitude,
Malachi's family
