On Friday 8th August, our much-loved Lorraine Cowie peacefully began her journey over the rainbow, after bravely battling cancer. She was surrounded by love, as she always had been, and leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and compassion that touched everyone she met.

Originally from Luton, Lorraine spent happy years in Newquay before settling into her cosy flat in Rossendale. But wherever she lived, she brought light, warmth, and joy to those around her.

Lorraine’s heart for others was endless. She volunteered with the WaterWell Foundation CIC, supporting people facing low mood and mental health challenges. Whether in 1-to-1 or group sessions, organising events, or simply showing up in her famous colourful hat with “Sydney the Sloth” (the group’s mascot) in hand, she brought a unique sparkle that made people feel less alone.

Her compassion extended to animals too. Lorraine gave her time to Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary’s “Cuddle Club,” comforting animals in need. Whether with people or pets, she had a rare gift for making the world feel a little brighter.

Her dedication and creativity didn’t go unnoticed, Lorraine was honoured with the Rossendale Award for Enterprising Person, a testament to her spirit, initiative, and the lasting difference she made in her community.

Now, it’s our turn to give back to her.

We’re raising funds to give Lorraine the beautiful and heartfelt send-off she deserves, a farewell filled with the love, laughter, and kindness she shared so freely. Any surplus will be donated to the charities closest to her heart, so her spirit of giving can continue.
