Hello Families & Friends, My name is Mabel Jilo, Resident of Grimes, Iowa. I recently lost my five years old Autistic son (Alvin ) on Friday, March 13th, 2026 in Grimes, Iowa. While we were sleeping, he apparently took off his clothes, unlocked the room door while his siblings were also asleep, came downstairs and unlocked the front door and went outside around 4am. He got out of the house and left. When I woke up around 5am, I realized that he was missing from the room he shared with two of his older siblings ( 15 & 9 years old ). I immediately went outside looking for him and found his diaper on the ground at the back yards of my house. I continued searching for him by going around the house, calling his name but he was no where to be found. I immediately called the police and reported the incident. I joined the police in searching for my son but after 20 minutes, the police told me to go home while they continued searching for Alvin. Later around 6am, the police called another officer that was with me at my residence and informed him that they found Alvin at a car wash called “ Mister Car Wash “ in Grimes and he was unresponsive. The officer that was at my residence told me to go with him at Blank Children Hospital in Des Moines, IA. When We arrived at Blank Children Hospital, the doctor informed me in the waiting room that my Son, Alvin is dead. Right away after hearing such death news of my beloved son, I was mentally and emotionally devastated and dropped on the floor crying. The cause of death was later disclosed to me on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. He died from “ Hypothermia “ Dying from extremely cold Temperatures.
