Kelly Ann Dulaney-Hicks of Decatur, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 20, 2021.
Kelly was born August 30, 1961, in Waukon, Iowa to Michael Patrick and Phyllis Ann Dulaney. Kelly graduated from Minnesota’s Pipestone High School in 1979. Kelly then moved to Kansas City where she began school to become a registered nurse. She eventually moved to North Texas and graduated from NCTC nursing program in 1992. During this time, she met and married the love of her life, Kirby Hicks. They celebrated their 29th anniversary on September 28th. Kelly gave her life to the Lord and accepted Jesus into her heart in 1988. She was blessed with two children, Tucker Hicks & Allie Rose Hicks, as well as her stepdaughter, Jillian Vestal.
Kelly is preceded in death by her father Mike Dulaney, and brother-in-law Dave Johnson. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband Kirby; son Tucker Hicks and wife Candace; daughter Allie Rose Hicks; daughter Jillian and husband Jon Vestal; her mother Phyllis Dulaney; brother Mick Dulaney and wife Julie; brother Mark Dulaney and wife Diane; sister Dar Dulaney; sister Diane Johnson; and 14 nieces and nephews.
Kelly worked as a registered nurse for nearly 30 years in many different settings and capacities. She was loved among coworkers and patients alike. She was a caregiver and nurturer by nature, and it was evident in her care and love towards others.
Kelly loved the outdoors. As a Master Gardener, she was blessed with a green thumb which was obvious to anyone who pulled into the driveway. She was also a gifted cook and enjoyed making meals for her family and others throughout the years, hosting Thanksgivings and Christmases most years. She loved music and doing puzzles, but kept busy mostly in her flower beds or playing with her dogs whom she loved dearly.
Above all else, Kelly loved her family and friends. She was blessed with a close knit family, and she cared for them deeply. She was an expectant first time grandmother to Tucker & Candace’s first child in May, and her legacy and memory will be passed on to her granddaughter as well as future grandchildren to come. She would have been most proud of her grandchildren.
Kelly will be dearly missed, but her vibrant, caring, loving personality will live on in our precious memories of her.
