In loving memory of Jose M. Cuevas, gone too soon

Our grandpa Pepe was an exceptional man, truly a blessing to our family. He was an attentive son and brother, a loyal friend, a loving uncle, a dedicated husband, an outstanding father, and the best grandfather in the world. He was always the strong and silent type yet, at the same time, he was witty and silly. Our Heavenly Father broke the mold when He made him. We never thought that this could happen to our family so suddenly.

Nine months ago, we lost our beloved grandma Pina. The two shared a strong, loving bond that no one could replicate. Now we see that they could not be without each other for another moment longer. They have both been called to God's side for eternity. While we are here on Earth suffering the loss of both of our grandparents, we understand that God's will had to be done.

He was born and raised in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico to Braulio Cuevas and Maria de la Luz Cuevas. He was the second oldest to five siblings: Jesus Othon, Tomas, Luis, and Monica. He loved to dance (which is how he met our grandma), listen to music, to watch and play baseball (the Dodgers were his ultimate favorite), and watch cartoons (he loved his Looney Tunes). He came to the U.S in the early 70's to help provide for his growing family. There he planted his roots. He worked as a waiter until he retired. He started at The Hungry Tiger in Hollywood and ended at The Smoke House in Burbank. In his retired years, he went to the casinos with grandma, spent time with his children and grandchildren, painted by numbers, watched Ridiculousness, Everybody Loves Raymond, and old Western movies (they took him back to his childhood), and, of course, tuned in to every Dodger game with their dog Paloma by his side. After grandma passed, he stayed strong for all of us. Even when he surprisingly succumbed to lung cancer and it quickly ravaged his body, he remained the man we knew and loved. He worried about his family until his very last breath.

He is survived by his three siblings, Tomas, Luis and Monica,, his three children and their spouses, Yadira & Jeffrey, Laura & David, and Jose Jr. & Erika,, and his three grandchildren, Ethan Manuel Xavier, Mariela Inez, and Elizabeth Paulina.

On behalf of our family, his grandchildren are humbly asking for donations in order to lay our grandfather to rest. We appreciate any amount that you are able to give. If you are unable to, we understand and ask that you may pray for our family and share this fundraiser.

Nuestro abuelito Pepe fue un hombre excepcional, una verdadera bendición para nuestra familia. Fue un hijo y un hermano atento, un amigo leal, un tío cariñoso, un marido dedicado, un padre excepcional y el mejor abuelito del mundo. Siempre fue el tipo fuerte y silencioso pero, al mismo tiempo, era ingenioso y chistoso. Nuestro Padre Celestial rompió el molde cuando lo hizo. Nunca pensamos que esto pudiera ocurrirle a nuestra familia tan repentinamente.

Hace nueve meses, perdimos a nuestra querida abuelita Pina. Las dos compartían un vínculo fuerte y cariñoso que nadie podría replicar. Ahora vemos que no podían estar el uno sin el otro ni un momento más. Ambas han sido llamadas al lado de Dios para la eternidad. Aunque estamos aquí en la Tierra sufriendo la pérdida de nuestros dos abuelitos, entendemos que la voluntad de Dios tenía que hacerse.

Nació y creció en Cd. Juárez, Chihuahua, México, hijo de Braulio Cuevas y María de la Luz Cuevas. Fue el segundo mayor de cinco hermanos: Jesús Othón, Tomás, Luis y Mónica. Le encantaba bailar (así fue como conoció a nuestra abuelita), escuchar música, ver y jugar al béisbol (los Dodgers eran su equipo favorito), y ver caricaturas (le encantaban sus Looney Tunes). Llegó a Estados Unidos a principios de los años 70 para ayudar a mantener a su creciente familia. Allí echó sus raíces. Trabajó como mesero hasta que se jubiló. Empezó en The Hungry Tiger en Hollywood y terminó en The Smoke House en Burbank. En sus años de jubilación, iba a los casinos con nuestra abuelita, pasaba tiempo con sus hijos y nietos, pintaba por números, veía Ridiculousness, Everybody Loves Raymond y viejas películas del Oeste (le devolvían a su infancia) y, por supuesto, sintonizaba cada partido de los Dodgers con su perrita Paloma a su lado. Tras la muerte de nuestra abuelita, se mantuvo fuerte por todos nosotros. Incluso cuando sorprendentemente sucumbió al cáncer de pulmón y éste hizo rápidamente estragos en su cuerpo, siguió siendo el hombre que conocíamos y amábamos. Se preocupó por su familia hasta su último aliento.

Le sobreviven sus tres hermanos, Tomás, Luis y Mónica, sus tres hijos y sus cónyuges, Yadira y Jeffrey, Laura y David, y José Jr. y Erika, y sus tres nietos, Ethan Manuel Xavier, Mariela Inez y Elizabeth Paulina.

En nombre de nuestra familia, sus nietos piden humildemente donaciones para poder despedir a nuestro abuelito. Agradecemos cualquier cantidad que pueda aportar. Si no pueden hacerlo, lo entendemos y les pedimos que recen por nuestra familia y compartan esta recaudación de fondos.
