In Loving Memory of John Pontillas
Donation protected
On Saturday December 1st, we lost our wonderful father John Pontillas unexpectedly while surfing at one of his favorite spots, Trestles Beach. We, his family, are absolutely heartbroken from this loss. However despite the sadness, we are comforted knowing he left this world doing what he loved most: surfing.
We celebrate John as a loving husband, a proud father, and a great friend to many. John was the ultimate "kid-at-heart", easily making others laugh. He loved surfing, willing to slightly move around his schedule to catch a good session but still make it home in time to spend time with his wife and kids. His love of the ocean and the beach was passed onto us as his kids, Jessica (23), Jenna (21), and Jason (19). He ensured all three of us were good swimmers and knew the very basics of surfing at the very least. He loved our family, proudly talking to anyone who would listen about our accomplishments anywhere from our dance performances to football games to going off to college in a brand new state. He was our mother's best friend, the both of them starting their first year with an empty nest after Jason moved to college in Tacoma, Washington in August.
If you knew our dad, you would know that he loved cracking jokes and making others laugh. His accident has been spreading through news sites all over the country, but he'll only care that they all thought he was in his mid-40s at first and that Surfer Mag released an article about him. He's probably doing a victory dance (probably a twist-o-flex) in heaven.
We have launched this GoFundMe to continue to celebrate our father's life and the amount of people's lives he has touched in his 53 years, but more importantly to support our mother in this time of grief. We want to continue making our father proud and be able to do what he envisioned for us. All of the proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards helping our mother out financially, mostly to cover college costs and other expenses that come with having multiple kids in college.
Thank you for keeping our dad's memory and legacy alive, and we ask that you continue to celebrate his life through sharing stories about John.
