In loving memory of James Avaras
Donation protected
James “Greek” Avaras valiantly fought his battle with brain cancer until passing peacefully on May 2nd, 2024. Jim served as a pillar of his community volunteering with the New City Fire Department for 50 years, retiring as Chief. While doing so, Jim served with FDNY’s Special Operations; Rescue 3. As a Master Builder Jim created beautiful homes for countless families all over the Tri-State area. Jim was known to be an honest, rough around the edges but soft hearted man who constantly sacrificed for those around him. He is survived by his wife, Connie Avaras, and his 3 sons, Austin, Aristotle & Nicholas. The dream home Jim built with his wife was sadly taken by foreclosure on August 2nd, 2023 due to his inability to work and medical expenses. Any donations in lieu of flowers would go an extremely long way for our family struggling in this difficult time.
The funeral service will be held on May 11th, 11AM - 3PM at the Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. This will be followed by a procession to Cold Spring Cemetery. We will then conclude the day with dinner and drinks at the New City Fire Department for a celebration of life, beginning at 5PM. God bless you all.
