In Loving Memory of Hodari Blue
It is with profound sorrow and tender love that we share the passing of our beloved Hodari Blue, who transitioned from this earth on May 8th, 2025.
This loss is sudden and unimaginable. Hodari was a brilliant creatrix, a knowledge bearer and generous sharer, a gentle warrior, friend, and world-builder. They moved through this life with expansive love and an unwavering commitment to healing, joy, and collective care. A gifted artist, dancer, educator, and advocate for justice, Hodari touched countless lives across the Bay Area and beyond—with their radiant spirit, their fierce creativity, and their deep dedication to community.
To honor Hodari’s life and legacy, we are organizing a Celebration of Life on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at 1:00 PM in Oakland, CA, with a virtual option for those who cannot attend in person. We invite all of Hodari’s Beloveds—friends, students, collaborators, chosen family—to grieve and celebrate in the ways that feel most resonant. Hodari honored prayer, communion with the ocean, dancing, and making art as medicine. In their memory, we welcome you to be that prolific now.
We are reaching out to our extended community to help raise funds to support this Celebration of Life and to carry forward Hodari’s spirit in ways that honor their legacy. Your contribution will help us:
- Cover the costs of the memorial gathering
- To prepare Hodari’s body for their return to the ancestors
- Provide travel and accessibility support for members of Hodari’s blood family
- Offer grief and healing resources to those who were there with Hodari during their transition
- Other costs associated with the grief moment for Hodari’s chosen and birth family.
Let us gather in love, in story, in movement, in joy.
