On the morning of April 12, 2020, our beloved friend Hardik J. Patel left us after fighting a 2.5 year battle with cholangiocarcinoma, a form of bile duct cancer.
Coming from a very humble background, Hardik worked diligently to build an incredible career. He completed his Bachelors in Pharmacy from University of Pune in India and then received his Masters Degree and Ph.D from St. John’s University in New York. In addition to being a registered pharmacist in New York, New Jersey, and Virginia, he also became a postdoctoral fellow at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), where his principal research topic was Heat Shock Protein (HSPs) as an anticancer target. He has authored more than 60 publications in the world’s most prominent research journals and has created several patents. He also received the Susan G. Komen For The Cure postdoctoral fellowship for his contribution to the field of cancer research. He was very well respected by his colleagues, patients and fellow pharmacists.
Not only did he excel at his career, but he also led a principled life and was a dedicated husband, father, son, and brother. He has left behind his wife, Hiral, as well as his 6-year-old son Siddharth and 2-year-old daughter Ananya.
His family and friends are completely shattered by this untimely and shocking event, but our primary concern is the wellbeing of his children, as their future is left in uncertain shadows. Given their father’s passion for learning and education, we would like to start an education fund for Siddharth and Ananya.
Our thoughts, prayers and donations will help to overcome the inconsolable grief struck on this family and provide them with a foundation to build their future. Together, we can make it happen. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will go a long way.
