In Loving Memory of Glenn Shumway
Donation protected
On behalf of the Shumway family, it is with a heavy heart to let our friends and family know that Glenn Marion Shumway passed away on June 17th, 2025. He was a father, a grandfather, a brother, an uncle, and will be greatly missed.
Glenn was a stoic, quiet man who did not often speak of his many accomplishments, including his years of service in the 1st Cavalry Division of the U.S. Army, where he was an unarmed combat medic rappelling out of Huey helicopters into the jungles of Vietnam, often into heavy fighting and chemical warfare. In the ten years that he served, he saved many lives and won several distinguished awards, including the rare Silver Star for many heroic efforts.
He then went on to work at the Miami Beach Fire Department, where he was also known for his acts of strength and bravery, including responding to a severe 1990s hotel fire that took the lives of several elderly inhabitants. He was one of the last firefighters to keep running into the building to save as many lives as possible despite concerns about the building’s integrity.
While he has passed on, the impacts of his acts of courage and bravery live on.
As the family navigates this incredibly difficult time, we are reaching out for support to help cover funeral and cremation expenses. Any contribution, no matter the size, will go directly toward honoring Glenn. Your generosity and support mean so much, and we are deeply grateful for any help you can provide.
