In Loving Memory of Flynn Flannigan

Hello, my name is Kelly Stewart and I am a close friend of the Flannigan family. It is with great sorrow and heavy heart that I share again, the sad news of Flynn Flannigan’s passing.
Flynn Flannigan (March 25, 1960 – March 1, 2022):
- Flynn is best known to many through his dedicated years of service with the Town of Cobourg. He proudly retired in March 2015 as the Town of Cobourg Parks Manager with over 34 years of service. The below picture is of Flynn with one of the wonderful retirement gifts he received from his colleagues and friends.
- Flynn’s passion for gardening and horticulture was seen and enjoyed locally throughout the Town of Cobourg. Privately, many friends and family also had the pleasure of enjoying Flynn’s green thumb in his own beautifully, manicured backyard - Flannigan Park.
- As many of you know, Flynn was an avid fisherman, hunter, bird-watcher and naturalist. Some of his happiest times were alongside his closest friends on lakes, in the woods and at hunt camps.
- He was a kind, generous man with a heart of gold. Flynn was always thinking of others and putting their needs first. In his spare time, he volunteered with his son Flynn Jr. at the local Food Bank. He would literally give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need – and without a doubt he helped many.
- In October 2021, Flynn was diagnosed with Stage 4 – Metastatic Pleural Effusion (MPE), a very aggressive form of cancer.
- Outwardly Flynn remained positive even through his own pain and suffering. He was a glass-half-full kind of guy. He fought a brave and courageous battle with this horrible disease until the very end. He passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family at Ed’s House on Tuesday March 1, 2022 at the young age of 61.
Expression of Interest/Donations:
- Numerous people including family, friends, neighbours and colleagues have reached out to Sue Flannigan (Flynn’s sister) and myself, wanting to know how to help the family?
- For those who have expressed interest in making a donation, we are starting this Go Fund Me page as a means to collect donations for the family. Funds will be given directly to Carolyn to aid with the creation of a Flynn Flannigan Memorial and to ease any financial stress she may face.

Flynn Flannigan Memorial:
- Sue has been in contact with the Town to have a memorial created in Flynn’s honor. The memorial is in preliminary discussions and has not been finalized, but the family is hoping to work with the Town of Cobourg to make this wish a reality.
- Peace Park was Flynn’s favorite park in Cobourg. The family has expressed their desire to have a tree/bench with a plaque placed at Peace Park in loving memory of Flynn. Fitting, as Flynn is at peace now and free from his pain.
Family’s Expression of Gratitude:
- The Flannigan family is very grateful for each and every one of you who have supported them along this very difficult journey over the past 5 months.
- The family wishes to recognize and sincerely thank all of the people who have already graciously shown their outpouring of love and support. They feel truly humbled by all the donations to Ed’s House, sympathy cards and flowers, telephone calls, text messages, prepared meals, food basket, gift cards/certificates, visits and so much more.
- On behalf of Carolyn, Caileigh, Flynn Jr. and the rest of the family “Thank you” everyone from the bottom of their hearts.

“Father God, we humbly pray for all those who are fighting cancer. Give them the hope and courage they need each day. Comfort them in their pain and bless them with healing. Strengthen their family, friends and caregivers. In Jesus’ name, Amen!”
