In Loving Memory of Fariah Chowdhury

Fariah Chowdhury was a vibrant force, larger than life, and a modern day revolutionary.  Anyone who came into her orbit would have been impacted by the passion, grit, and integrity that marked her character as one of the most powerful and colourful any of us will ever have had the privilege to know.  She used her tremendous gifts as an educator, advocate, and activist to effect change that will better the lives of countless others. To honour this legacy and extend her impact beyond her short time on Earth, this fund will be used towards a scholarship, gift, and/or donation in keeping with those connections that were the most deeply meaningful to Fariah (i.e. migrant justice, food security, indigenous rights, LGBTQ+ rights, cultural preservation, and public education). Details of the Donation will be decided in time by her partner Ahsan Choudhury and those friends and family who knew her work intimately.

Fariah died while pregnant with her unborn daughter on July 8th, 2020. The immeasurable gap left by her loss will be felt by no one more than her son, Amaar. He was the star at the center of her universe. She was 35 years old.

As a family, we are still discussing how the funds raised here will best honour Fariah's legacy and which charities spoke closest to her heart.  In the meantime, funds will be stewarded by our dear family friend Dr. Sabrina Akhtar until we have chosen a charity to donate to.
