In Loving Memory of Eugenio Melendez

Today, Saturday, August 1, my grandfather sadly passed away in the presence of our Lord.

Early morning on July 22, my grandpa, Eugenio Melendez, was admitted to the hospital. He was gravely ill for roughly a week. The doctors were astounded that he was still standing considering the state he was in. They induced a coma and claimed he had 48 hours to live. Shortly after, we were informed he was positive for Covid19. After many prayers and faith in our God, his health was beginning to improve. Sadly five days later, we received a phone call explaining his condition worsened and now has gangrene. The time had arrived where we had to disconnect him to see if he would react and sadly he couldn’t survive on his own. It was a tragedy like this, that caught us off guard, making us realize how unprepared we were. Unable to say goodbye, we are trying to celebrate the life of my grandpa to the best of our abilities.

Eugenio Melendez came to America, like many others, for a better future. He met my beloved grandma, Evelina M Sanabria, in Guatemala and married in America. Father of many, he raised her children as his own, along with the child they had together. Although we are not related by blood, he will forever be my Abuelo and an important father figure in my life. Due to an unfortunate event in the past, when my father was taken away, Abuelo reassured and promised me that no matter what happens in life, he will always be by my side. Through him, I have extended family from Bakersfield whom I appreciate and thank for sharing their grandpa with us. He showed so much love for my family and we will always be grateful for that. He lived a long life, surrounded by his loving family and friends, throughout those years generously sharing all his love, time, and wisdom. Abuelo dedicated his life to God and treasured everything that was given to him. A loving husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa, he will be remembered and immensely missed. We will always carry him in our hearts.

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” Psalms 116:15

Thank you for taking the time to read and share this. We wholeheartedly appreciate every donation. All donations will go to the funeral and medical expenses. God bless you all.

He will be buried in Bakersfield near his home. Rest in Peace, 1942-2020
