In loving memory of Elizabeth Hartey who passed away at Saint Clare’s Hospital in Denville, NJ on
February 22, 2022. Elizabeth described herself as “a dreamer at heart” and expressed this creativity as she stated in her author bio by “writing and reading into the wee hours of the morning”. She posted online that “there is no such thing as too many books” and “my favorite game is how many chapters can I read in one night”. My favorite post of hers is, “I am a bookaholic and I have no regrets”. Books were a big part of her life, which authored an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, professional, and artist. Elizabeth and her family also had great compassion for others and donated and advocated to support children in need. To celebrate Elizabeth’s life and literary passion we will be establishing a library and reading institute for underprivileged children in Ghana West Africa (one of the missions she lovingly supported). One of the biggest issues in Ghana’s rural communities are that many children are illiterate and often the idea of graduating school seems impossible. It is within this challenge that the Elizabeth Hartey library and reading institute will be an advocate of her “dreamer heart” encouraging these children through the memory of Elizabeth’s life, and the books she left behind.
The location of the Elizabeth Hartey library will be at the Pope Francis School and Health Centre, Avenui, Ghana: https://popefrancisschool.org/
