Dear Friends and Family,

 

This is with the heaviest of hearts I have to share the sudden passing of our mother Elena Madrid, unexpectedly on November 3rd, 2021. Elena struggled with many health ailments towards the end of her life. Most profound and impactful was that of Epilepsy which she battled the majority of her life, starting at the young age of 16 yrs old. Other health ailments include Hemolytic Anemia, an autoimmune disorder which she coped with for many many years, undergoing numerous blood transfusions and various testing and treatments. Unfortunately, unable to find a cure. Recently, in the early part of this year she was victorious in overcoming breast cancer in its early stages which we were very grateful for. Despite all of her health ailments she always remained strong, independent, and positive. Elena was a fun and charismatic woman with a great sense of humor. And always found the good in everything no matter what came her way. She never gave up on hope. 

Elena loved to garden, was very creative and artistic, and had an appreciation and love for music. She was also very passionate about education and held it in high regard. She was always so encouraging in the pursuit of ones dreams. Elena was a devout woman of faith and was involved throughout her life in the Catholic Church. Elena was a wonderful daughter, loving sister, and devoted mother and grandmother. She always wanted the best for her kids and did everything she could while sacrificing for herself. No matter how big the problem or challenge was in which she faced, she always approached it with courage, never relying on anyone but herself to get through it. Elena is the mother of Safia Ahmed, Laura Madrid and grandmother to Leena Isabella. 

We are absolutely devastated by her passing and are struggling to get through this painful time. We were not prepared for the high cost of a Funeral Service. Our mother had always spoke of her wish of being buried at The Holy Cross with her father. We want to honor her wishes and give her the memorial she deserves to honor her memory and say our last goodbyes.
