In Loving Memory of Editha Barte

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Editha Barte. Editha was a woman of quiet strength, always willing to help others, often giving selflessly even when she had little to give. Her humility and kindness touched everyone she met.

Born and raised in the Philippines, Editha spent the early part of her life working alongside her family in their fishing business and pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor. She earned her doctorate at the Cebu Institute of Medicine in 1976 where she also taught before migrating to the United States, where she raised her two children, Dino and Bernadette, as a single mother. Though her journey as an immigrant was challenging, Editha’s unwavering faith and the support of family helped her overcome the obstacles she faced. She spent the remainder of her career caring for retired nuns, offering them comfort and compassion in their final days.

In January 2025, Editha suffered a severe stroke that left her with extremely limited mobility. For the next several months, she was cared for at various hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and at home where she lived with Dino and his family. On Friday, July 25, 2025, Editha peacefully passed away in her sleep, free from pain and suffering, as God called her home.

Though we are heartbroken by her passing, we take comfort in knowing she lived a full, meaningful life, surrounded by love. Editha’s memory will live on in our hearts, and we are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends and family during this difficult time.

We invite you to join us in celebrating her life and legacy. Details for the visitation and memorial service are below. There will be a full viewing, but per Editha’s wishes, she will be cremated, and there will be no burial following the service. A special memorial will also be held for her at their family burial site in the Philippines at a later date.

For those who have expressed interest in offering support, we appreciate your kind gesture. If you would like to contribute to her celebration of life, the memorial in the Philippines, or help offset medical expenses, donations are welcome, but your presence is what would mean the most to our family.
