In Loving Memory of Diane Callahan

I am so sad to say, on Thanksgiving morning, our Mother unexpectedly suffered from side by side ruptured brain aneurysms. She suffered from bleeds into her subarachnoid space, ventricles, and corpus callosum. Her initial prognosis was anywhere from poor to very good and we went with aggressive treatment to try and stabilize her. Over the next two weeks the amazing Doctors and Neurological ICU team at RWJ did all they possibly could to help Mom. Despite every intervention, procedure, test, or medication our Mom continued to develop other issues that complicated her recovery.
During this entire time, Mom's intracranial pressure continued to remain very high despite every intervention possible. We continued treatment in hopes she would stabilize and the doctors were doing all they could to prevent any additional damage, other than what was originally caused by the initial rupture/bleed. Unfortunately, she sustained additional brain damage from stroke due to the continued high intracranial pressure. Her chance at a meaningful recovery that she would want was no longer on the table. Mommy passed at 12:27am on 12/10/20 with myself and my brother holding her and telling her we loved her in her final moments.
If you knew our Mom you knew she had a really big heart, a heart of gold, as they would say. She had opted to be an organ donor and give life to others when she could no longer have life on Earth. She is now an organ and tissue donor which is incredibly special, as only 1% of the population can be both. In her honor, RWJ lit the building blue and green (organ donation colors) to honor her and her gift of life to others. I am pleased to say I will obtain a list of recipients she will continue to live on in.
Mom did not have life insurance or financial means/resources. Although it is a hard to ask for help in these difficult times, we are asking our family and friends to rally together to help our family pay for her end of life costs and costs her medical insurance does not cover. We appreciate any help possible and any share of this Go Fund Me to honor her life.
