In loving memory of Diana Marie Shobe

It is with tremendous sadness we mourn the passing of the inspirational, beautiful, intelligent, loving Wife and Mother, precious Diana Marie Shobe.

Two weeks into her retirement, after working as a Dental Hygienist for 25+ years, Diana was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer in November of 2020. She had just arrived in Seattle, full of joy, to spend the next six months as Grandma to her then six-month-old Grandson, Walter – this was the retirement she longed for. On the day of her diagnosis, two weeks into her six-month Seattle stay, Diana met the debilitating news with optimism and a trust in the medical interventions that were presented to her, after all she had caught it early! She endured eight hard months of chemo in Seattle before flying to Mayo Clinic in Minneapolis for one month of radiation and oral chemo. This neoadjuvant chemotherapy regimen was in preparation to undergo a massive surgery called the Whipple Procedure, the only known cure for PanCan. A successful Whipple Procedure and cancer-free prognosis precipitated a myriad of serious post-surgical complications over the next eight months. The Whipple is said to be one of the most difficult recoveries one can endure even without complications; yet she found the courage to pursue new treatments at every turn totaling seven surgeries and countless weeks in various hospitals across the country. Despite accepting every medical intervention with her shoulders squared, mind focused and her tremendous strength and will to live, Diana passed away on Thursday May 26th, 2022, surrounded by her family. She fought so very hard to remain with her family – she desperately wanted to see what the future held for her children, grandchildren and to travel with her beloved husband.

Diana's bravery has been an inspiration to her family and friends. She dedicated her life to her family and so many others. She would carry the pain of people she barely knew only to turn and dissolve the pain through laughter and some sage motherly advice. Diana raised far more than her own three children, most of her children’s friends didn’t want to leave the Shobe house growing up. It was always a kind and respectful environment; she wouldn’t have it any other way. She helped everyone she met and left behind a family dedicated to her loving memory, and to honor her legacy - her husband Brad, her eldest son Nathan (Tristie), grandson Walt, and her twins Kristin (Nick) & Kyle (Skyla). She gave her life to her family, Every. Single. Day.

If you knew Diana or are touched by her story and are wondering how you can help support, we ask you to donate what you are able to and help our mission to install a park bench in Kensington Metropark. Brad & Diana met as teenagers and over their 47 years together, Kensington was one of their favorite places to spend time by themselves and later with their three children. Whether going on a quiet walk around the lake or zooming around the eight-mile track on their bikes, they truly loved the park. The family plans to honor and celebrate Diana's life at this beautiful park. A memorial bench with a plaque in her memory will cost $5,150.00. Any funds raised beyond that will go to the PanCAN pancreatic cancer action network for further research and treatment development, with the hopes that future generations won't have to suffer from this horrible disease. Even if you are unable to give anything, we appreciate your support in keeping Diana in your heart.
