In Loving Memory of Derek Cork

Hi everyone, my name is Ashley Cork, Derek Cork's sister. On April 27th, 2000, Derek was born, and my world was forever changed. I was only 3.5 years old, but I will never forget the joy I felt when I became a big sister. He was the most handsome boy. You could get lost in his beautiful blue-green eyes and his laugh was contagious. He loved basketball, boxing, and was especially talented at cutting hair. He taught himself to become a barber, and he became one of the best in the game. Everyone knew that he was special. He wasn't one of those barbers you go to and sit in awkward silence, scrolling through your phone. He cared. He asked questions, and he listened. He gave advice. He was deep. For such a young man, he knew so much about the world and how unfair it can be. But, every day, he showed up for the people he loved most. He was good at hiding the darkest parts of himself. He was so funny, always joking even when it wasn't the right time. On March 21st, 2023, Derek passed away. It breaks me to know that he was in so much pain, but I can only pray that he is at peace now. I believe wholeheartedly that Derek was meant for greatness. He touched so many lives in just 22 years of life, and I hope he knows that now.

My mother Ivonne Cork, and my father, James Cork are devastated. They were there for Derek until the end. They lost their only devoted and loving son, and their lives will never be the same. As we take the time to grieve this tremendous loss as a family, I have created this account to provide my parents with financial support during this difficult time. We would like to give Derek the goodbye he deserves, surrounded by all of his friends and family that loved him most. No amount is too small; even a simple share is greatly appreciated.

Thank you to everyone that has reached out to me and my family. The past 2 days have been a rollercoaster of emotions. I am angry, I am deeply saddened, I feel peace, I am confused, and I question reality, but then I remember that all of these emotions stem from one place: Love. That is one thing Derek never failed to do. He continues to fill us all with love, and we will carry him with us from now until the end of time.
