In Loving Memory of Darren Han

Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and community,

Our dear brother Darren Han passed away at the age of 15 on April 17, 2024, after a fierce 2 year long battle with brain cancer.

Darren was the strongest person we knew. In March 2022, Darren fell unconscious after a week-long string of headaches and after a CT, doctors discovered 2 tumors on the left side of his brain. After an emergency surgery to remove his tumors, we were informed that Darren had grade 4 diffuse glioma, an aggressive brain cancer.

Despite being in and out of treatment since his diagnosis in March 2022, he still continued to go to school to continue his studies and play cello, tennis, and chess. He was even #1 in his class during his first year of high school, despite the constant difficulties he faced.

In middle school, Darren attended the Junior Summer Math Camp virtually twice due to COVID. He always looked forward to attending the Honors Summer Math Camp every summer in hopes that he'd be able to attend in-person and experience living with friends and learning together. However, due to his condition, he was ultimately never able to attend.

Darren was incredibly determined. His cancer resurfaced on the right side of his brain in February 2023. With no options left, Darren and our family made the difficult decision to go to Tawain in hopes of undergoing a special target radiation therapy. Despite the risks, Darren wanted to recover quickly so that he'd be able to come back to school and reunite with his friends and teachers. After this treatment, his vision quickly deteriorated and he lost mobility in his left side and had to rely on a wheelchair. He never let his condition affect him. Darren would talk about learning braille so that he could continue to read and attend school again once he recovered. He also dreamed about travelling around the world when he got older. Even when he had to travel back to Taiwan for another round of treatment in late August 2023, he brought all his schoolwork with him in hopes of catching up when he came back. However, he fell unconscious after his treatment and never woke up.

Anyone who has met Darren knows how kind he was. He would always put others before himself. At lunch, he would always make sure to pack some extra food to share with his friends. At home, he was always worrying about us and our parents, constantly asking us to take care of ourselves.

As his sisters, we witnessed Darren's extraordinary willpower and strength throughout his 2 year long battle with cancer. He loved learning. He loved being with his friends. He loved helping others. Although he is no longer with us, we know that he will continue to watch over us and be with us.

All contributions made will be to help cover funeral and memorial service costs for our family. Any additional funds will be donated towards charity. When dates for his service are finalized, we will let everyone know.

Thank you so much for your support during this time.
