In Loving Memory of Dahlak Keleta:

Donation protected
A profound loss has befallen the city of New Orleans, as we mourn the untimely departure of Dahlak Keleta—a grassroots activist, humanitarian, artist, friend to many and local ambassador. Dahlak's sudden absence leaves an irreplaceable void, echoing through the hearts of the community he so passionately served.

Beyond his dedicated contributions to Southern Solidarity, where he stood as a frontline responder providing crucial aid during the challenging times of the Covid outbreak, Dahlak was also known as a fervent gardener with a passion for furniture restoration with Reclaim Nola. Additionally, Dahlak was an active member of the partner dance community and a lively participant in the festival dance parties that define the spirit of New Orleans.

His larger-than-life Leo energy resonated through all of his endeavors, while he also generously held space for others as a deeply nurturing and empathetic soul.
The impact of Dahlak's departure is deeply felt within the fabric of New Orleans, touching not only the collective community but also those fortunate enough to experience his charisma on a personal level—most notably, his long-term partner, Kristin Foster.

We are coming together to honor Dahlak's memory with the dignified farewell he deserves. Plans are underway for a Second Line Memorial, details of which will be shared shortly. Additionally, we aim to establish a Memorial Bench/Mural on the street he lived on for over 20 years in his name and to cover the costs of his final arrangements expenses.

For those who had the privilege of knowing Dahlak intimately, the devastation is immeasurable. He embodied selflessness, generosity, and kindness, making him a cherished soul within the heart of New Orleans—an embodiment of everything positive about the city's spirit.

We humbly request your support through donations and by sharing this initiative with your friends and community. Dahlak left an indelible mark on our lives, and he deserves to be remembered for the unwavering contributions he made to this city. Please join us in easing the suffering of all who loved him and in ensuring his legacy is never forgotten.

We will keep you informed about the upcoming Memorial Services, ensuring that Dahlak's memory is honored with the love and respect he so richly deserves.
Thank you for your generosity and kindness.

*** There will be multiple ways to celebrate him. The first memorial service will be Dec 17th at The Art Garden. Meeting time TBD.
