On April 8, 2026, our family experienced the unexpected passing of a man who meant everything to us, our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and the heart of our family, Conrad Maurice.
He passed peacefully in his sleep at home, where he was surrounded by love. His daughter (Dawn), who had the blessing of caring for him, found him resting, exactly how he would have wanted to go.
Conrad lived a full and meaningful life. Born on July 16, 1937, he was the youngest of six siblings and the last of the mohicans to pass, a quiet closing of a beautiful chapter in our family’s story.
He leaves behind his children:
David Kellerman, Debra Shovlin (Joseph Shovlin), Dawn Santiago (Henry Santiago), and Doreen Badillo (Juan Manuel Badillo).
His love continues through his grandchildren:
Victoria Gregory (Michael Gregory), Heather Dattoli, Shaleyna Velez (Desmond Velez Sr.), Tina Kellerman, Tanya Badillo-Valles (Jorge Valles), and Manuel Badillo (Breanna Badillo).
His legacy grows through his great-grandchildren:
Nicole Dattoli, Anastasia Velez, Azalea Velez (Micah Brackenridge), Elliyana Dattoli, Zaniyah Velez, Logan Gregory and Desmond Velez Jr.
And through his great-great-grandchildren:
Mekhi Patterson-Velez, Xavier Sandoval, and Ariella Velez.
He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, along with countless family members and friends whom he stayed closely connected to, always calling, always checking in, always making sure everyone was okay.
To us, he wasn’t just a father or a grandfather, he was a present part of our lives in every single way.
Nothing made him happier than spending times with his family, whether in Wisconsin, South Carolina, or New York. He loved to play cards, do puzzles, tell stories and tell jokes.
What truly lit him up was cooking and eating with the people he loved. The kitchen was his happy place, and it became the center of so many of our memories. He didn’t just cook meals, he created moments. We even turned his passion into something lasting by creating an official family cookbook filled with his original recipes. One of his biggest dreams was to open his own restaurant and publish that cookbook for the world to experience his food.
He made sure each generation felt his love in real, tangible ways.
If you knew him, you knew his cooking was unmatched, especially his homemade “gravy” (his famous meatball sauce) and baked macaroni and cheese. Those meals weren’t just food; they were how he showed love.
He enjoyed the simple things in life, like playing the lottery, always with his favorite numbers, 808 or 8808 and spending time with the people he loved most.
We created this page because so many people have reached out asking how they can support our family during this time.
While we may not always ask for help, we deeply appreciate the love, support, and kindness being shown to us. If you feel led to contribute, please know that your generosity will go toward honoring Conrad’s Celebration of life and helping our family navigate this unexpected loss.
More than anything, we ask that you keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.
