In Loving Memory of Cindy Yumiko Harper
Our beloved Cindy Yumiko Harper recently passed away on August 8th. She was diagnosed with cancer in early 2020 which she battled but then it metastasized to a secondary location halfway through the year. With intensive radiation and chemo treatments she was able to get into remission in early 2021. Unfortunately, the treatments also broke down her body where it became incurable.
Cindy second home was at California State University San Marcos and had been with the university for over 27 years, first serving with the Career Center as both an analyst and then as a technical specialist. She later joined the Office of Academic Advising, serving as an academic advisor primarily advising students in STEM majors and student veterans. Cindy had an incredible impact on faculty, staff and countless students who absolutely adored her relentless care and compassion she had for them. She was so excited to get back to a “normal” and was ready for the next phase of her life.
We are all heartbroken and will very much miss her energy, passion, and authenticity. We will miss her smile and the positive energy she shared with the world. It was Cindy’s wish that when she passes to return her ashes to Okinawa. Many have asked how to support the family in this very difficult time. I am creating this fundraiser to support her son Lucas Pollack who lost his mom way too soon. So, when the time comes, he will be able to honor her last wish. My hope is this can support his needs covering any immediate funeral expenses, and travel, etc. It would mean a lot if you could support her son or share Cindy’s Memorial fundraiser with others who knew her. Thank you so much for your support and consideration.
With lots of Love, Her CSUSM family <3
